Summer Report

September marks the end of what has been a busy summer for GBM staff at Mission Centre. Early August saw us gathering for our Athelington summer holiday, while in late August we ran our Root Hill Youth Camp.

Our Athelington summer holiday took place in idyllic Suffolk and we were joined by well over 100 holiday-makers. The week consisted of an enjoyable blend of ministry, mission, competitiveness and relaxation.

This year’s ministry was brought to us by Chris Hawthorne, former Pastor at St Johns Wood and soon to be Principal of Proclamation Institute Zambia. Chris spoke from the book of Matthew and focused on the Great Commission and was a real challenge and encouragement to those present.

As well as Chris and Helen Hawthorne and family, we were joined by Phil and Lydia Evans, serving in Latvia, Daniel Caballero, from Peru and Brian Ellis, missionary in the Philippines. We heard from each of them about their struggles, encouragements and future plans.

At our Root Hill Youth Camp, over 50 young people descended on Root Hill Farm for fun, encouragement and Bible ministry.

Our main speaker this year was Andrew King, pastor of Highbury Baptist Church, London. Andrew spoke on the Sermon on the Mount and how through applying the words of Jesus to our hearts and minds our lives will be radically changed from how they once were. Then in our local churches we should be encouraging each other to be living these things out, our churches being little kingdom outposts of King Jesus, displaying and being adverts of the gospel of grace.

We were also blessed to be joined in the evenings by Ashkan Sarmadi from Derby Road Watford, Chris Hawthorne Proclamation Institute Zambia and Luke Crowter from Silver Street Church, Enfield.

As well as the ministry, our week had our annual walk up Box Hill, and trips out to Guildford and Littlehampton.

Recordings of all the talks across both summer camps can be found and downloaded from our summer holidays page.
