Serving TodayServing Today

As a direct result of letters received from pastors who were listening to the Sound Words Bible teaching programme, a burden grew to do something the help those in local churches with leadership responsibility. The first programme was aired in September 2002 and since then has enjoyed a good response from the target audience.

The Programme’s Aim

The main aim of the programme is to help pastors and church leaders to think biblically and to preach the message of the Bible with greater clarity. In addition to studies that lead directly to sermons, Serving Today has also dealt with a number of doctrinal subjects as well as issues of a pastoral and leadership nature.

A Typical Programme

Usually each programme looks at two different topics, for example a survey of a book of the Bible and a subject such as preaching on special occasions. Often a topic is dealt with over a number of programmes. Sometimes we break from this normal routine and devote a whole programme or series of programmes to one subject. This has been done recently with an in depth consideration of HIV/AIDS and how the local church should respond to this pandemic.

Speakers

The contributors to Serving Today have all been in the Lord’s service and are therefore well qualified to understand and speak on issues facing pastors and church leaders today. Many have been experienced pastors themselves. More recently Derek French who produces the programme has been ably helped by Andrew Cook. Ian Flanders, another member of the radio team and whose main work is in the French language, has also made excellent contributions to the programme.

Response From Listeners.

Since the beginning of this project booklets have been produced looking at the various subjects that Serving Today has dealt with. These have been offered free to our listeners, and hundreds of these have been distributed to many parts of the world. Pastors also find they are able to share pastoral problems with us and we seek to help them as they grapple with these issues from a biblical perspective. What has been most encouraging have been those letters which testify how the programme has helped men improve their preaching and thus make themselves more useful servants of their Church members.

We offer you the possibility of receiving these programmes for airing on local radio on a regular basis and free of charge. If you would like to receive the programmes, they are sent out on CD (Audio, 5 programmes per CD.) The programmes are 14m30 long and are designed to be aired weekly. Please let us know if you would like to receive a few copies of each accompanying booklet. We will send you the booklets according to the subjects of the programmes that you receive.
