Sound Words
Sound Words is produced and presented by Derek French and has been on air since 1993. It’s currently broadcast on short wave to Central and Southern Africa and India, via satellite to the UK and Europe as well as local FM stations in Western Africa and Madagascar. The Programme’s Aim
Sound Words’ main objective is to give basic Bible teaching that will support and strengthen believers, and touch the hearts of non-Christian listeners. Letters received show the great need for good Bible teaching around the world, and the lack of understanding the doctrines of God and his grace. This need covers a wide spectrum of listeners; for example, those isolated listeners who rely solely on the radio for their spiritual instruction; new Christians, and those who have known the Lord for many years but have lacked sound teaching; pastors and church leaders, and unbelievers seeking God.
A Typical Programme
Radio is a one-to-one medium so we use a conversational style of Bible teaching. We try to anticipate the kind of questions a listener might want to ask. Programmes have also been devoted to answering listeners’ questions, and believers’ testimonies are used to illustrate the teaching given. These show listeners the relevance of the Word of God and that Christ is the true Saviour.
Speakers
A number of experienced pastors and elders have contributed to the programme. Most of these are from churches in the UK, but we have also had help from others overseas.
Response From Listeners
Letters from listeners show us how the Lord has been using the programme. These come from many countries with India producing the largest response and Zambia, Malawi and South Africa close behind. Sometimes there is a simple request for literature or a Bible. One lady wrote to ask, "Who is Jesus? What can you tell me about him?” Another listener wrote to say he was the only Christian on his island. Some listeners share their trials and seek help with their difficulties. Others tells us how they have come to know Christ as their Lord and Saviour and are now enjoying his forgiveness and daily help.

We offer you the possibility of receiving these programmes for airing on local radio on a regular basis and free of charge. If you would like to receive the programmes, they are sent out on CD (Audio, 5 programmes per CD.) The programmes are 14m30 long and are designed to be aired weekly. Please let us know if you would like to receive a few copies of each accompanying booklet. We will send you the booklets according to the subjects of the programmes that you receive.
