Week of Prayer 2023 – ‘Establish the work of our hands’

This year’s Week of Prayer takes place from Sunday, 11 – Sunday, 18 June.

Building Christ’s church in the world is Christ’s work—as he said, ‘I will build my church’ (Matthew 16:18).

Yet the Lord is pleased to use us, and our works done in faith and for his glory, in accomplishing his purposes. That’s why he gave us ‘the Great Commission’ and many other commands and encouragements to spread the gospel locally and globally. Mission work is vital part of the ‘good works’ (Ephesians 2:10) which God has prepared for us to do.

Psalm 90 gives us a prayer that we can use for ourselves and our missionaries: ‘Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands’ (Psalm 90:17).

During our Week of Prayer, let’s use this verse to help focus our prayers for our missionaries and their many different works.
